Create a Pain-Killer Idea Research Method
May 20, 2022So you want to start a business or grow your current business! Great!
But how do you decide what product or service to offer that people will find valuable and want to buy, regardless of current financial or market climates?
This is a challenge faced by every current or potential business owner, and is frequently the first obstacle in their path to success.
What if there was a way to know exactly what your audience is after BEFORE you design your product?
What if you didn’t have to spend tons of money on surveys and market research to decipher what people in your niche are after?
The good news is, there IS a way, and I will walk you through some important resources that can help you on your way to finding and validating your product or service ideas to make sure that what you’re putting out is what your audience WANTS, meaning more sales for you, and more income for you right off the bat. In this training, I will show you how to create a (pain) killer idea!
Vitamins vs Aspirins Approach
Before we discuss resources you can utilize to aid you on validating your product or course, we should discuss the Vitamins vs. Aspirin Approach.
Whatever your niche, your market, your target audience, your platform or your goals - the vitamins vs aspirin approach will help you to immediately elevate your sales process and product design process.
Think of it this way - you never have to market aspirin to anyone. You never have to convince someone to go to the store and buy over the counter pain medication.
Why is that?
The reason is simply this: aspirin solves pain. You never need to convince anyone to purchase something that solves a pain for them.
Now think about vitamins. If I told you vitamin B could help you to increase your energy, you might buy it, but it takes some convincing. We all know the proposed benefits of taking vitamins, we all know calcium is important for our bones, but how many of us REALLY stock up on vitamins every day?
Chances are, you’d buy aspirin before you’d buy vitamins, and this speaks volumes about the mentality of people and the reasoning behind their purchase decisions.
What does this all mean?
It means that you should always approach any product or service creation around solving a deep pain that your audience has. In doing so, you will never have to convince them to buy anything. They will automatically reach for your product because they know it solves something that may be keeping them up at night. This is why it is so important to come up with a "pain-killer" idea!
How do you know what your audience wants?
The billion dollar question- the question that agonizes every entrepreneur, designer, business owner and sales rep: What on EARTH do people want?
Well, the good news is there are a plethora of resources you can use to help you discover what it is your potential clients will be after. In this training we will discuss the same research method we use!
This research process helps us identify WINNING products.
Creating products about things people are searching for = WIN
Creating products about things no one is searching for = FAIL
Step 1) Answer the Public
One of the first resources you can use is called AnswerThePublic.com
You will want to pick a few topics to research, and use your top level topic without fluff words.
For example: “Business Systems,” “Social Media Ads,” “Technology Platforms,” etc.
Using a more broad approach when searching will put up related searches people in YOUR niche are looking for!
Here is an example of searching the top-level topic of business systems:
As you can see, using a top level, broad topic will show you questions being asked surrounding this topic, and will give you results based on how these questions are related to your topic.
You can see how your topic is being discussed based on the who, why, will, what, where, when, which etc. The great news is answerthepublic.com gives you the chance to see your results in many forms, from alphabetical questions, to related questions and more.
You can use these answers as a launching point for your next step in the process!
Step 2) Google Autofill
Once you have decided on a topic, (In this case what business systems are required to achieve success), go to google and type in your question.
There will inevitably be an unending stream of results.
So based on these results, you can see that people are often wondering about what business systems will help them to succeed in their business.
Now you have identified a PAIN that your clients in your niche have, and now you can formulate a solution to that pain. You can create your aspirin, or pain-killer idea!
Step 3) Discover the Current Existing Solutions to that Question
Now that you understand a pain point facing your potential audience, and have a topic to cover, the next step in the research process is to see what is already out there in the world regarding that topic.
-
Go to YouTube and type in your question “What business systems are needed for success?”
- (This determines what people are WATCHING about your product)
-
Go to Amazon and type in your topic “Business systems for success.”
- (This determines what people are BUYING around your product)
-
Go to buzzsumo.com and see what social media content is being shared around your topic.
- (This determines what social media buzz is happening around your topic)
Watch videos and do your market research by discovering other existing products and methods which deal directly with your topic and your question. Of course, you will want to incorporate your own story, and devise your OWN solution to your topic. Leverage your personal experience and create your course or product based around what people in your niche are after.
As an added bonus, this can help you to determine WINNING headlines for your product, ad or sales page, because now you know what people are searching for!
Conclusion
This research method is one of my best kept secrets, and can really help you to decide on a PAIN-KILLER idea that is bound to sell!
Once you can answer what your audience is after, the rest is easy!
Using this method you can validate your course or product ideas, make sure that your content is relevant to your market, and will have a HIGH success rate!
